Enabler uses a technology from Borland known as the Borland Database Engine, or BDE, to access its database files. The BDE is a common, shared program component which may be utilitised by other applications.

There are many versions of the BDE. Depending on when your Enabler was originally installed, your BDE version should be either 5.01, 5.11 or 5.2.

It is possible for a third party application installed on the same computer to install a different version of the BDE. To determine your current BDE version:

  1. Determine where the BDE program files are installed:
    1. The BDE is commonly installed in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Borland Shared\bde
    2. To be sure, load the Registry Editor regedit.exe.
    3. Navigate to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Borland\Database Engine
    4. The value of DLLPath is the directory where the BDE is installed.
  2. In Windows Explorer, navigate to this directory and locate the file IDAPI32.DLL.
  3. Right-click this file and choose Properties.
  4. Switch to the tab that displays file version information. Depending on your version of Windows this might be called Details or Version Info or similar.
  5. The first 3 parts of the 4-part version number show the BDE version. E.g. 5.0.1.x or 5.1.1.x or 5.2.0.x.

If your BDE version is different from the above, please contact Magenta Support to discuss your options.
