Because there are no transactions/sales history kept on an Enabler Till, this makes it very easy to restore. The only item that should be updated is the posparam.dbf which contains the previous transaction/seed numbers that were used.

Step 1: Re-install Enabler on the new/rebuilt system

Enabler should be installed to the same directory as was previously used on the original installation. If this is not possible, the configuration files on the HO/Store Servers must be updated to reflect the new path before proceeding to Step 2. To update the configuration files perform the following steps on the Head Office Server:

  1. Open Back Office
  2. Open Local Store Setup
  3. Select Database Setup and click Config
  4. Update the ‘Local’ and ‘Training Database’ paths to reflect the new local paths.
  5. Click OK to save

Step 2: Export/Import Till configuration files and license

To Export Configuration files from the Head Office Server

  1. Open Back Office
  2. Open Global Setup
  3. Select the Branch to which this till belongs
  4. Click Export
  5. Specify a path to where the exported configuration files should be exported to
NOTE: This path will be formatted, so do not specify a root directory such as C:\
  6. Copy the entire folder contents to a folder on the Till (EG: C:\config)

To Import the configuration files onto the new/rebuilt Till

  1. Open Back Office
  2. Select ‘Diskette’ from the configuration dialogue window
  3. Specify the path where the configuration files were copied to (EG: C:\config)
  4. The files will be imported
  5. Close Back Office

To license the new/rebuilt Till

  1. Open Back Office
  2. A prompt will ask for a new license to be entered. Note down the Logical Address and Volume ID
  3. Logon to the Magenta Online Licensing tool using your client login and issue a ‘Rebuild License’ using the noted Logical Address and Volume ID

Step 3: Upgrade Enabler installation to same version as Store Server

  1. Close all Enabler apps on the Till. This includes Back Office, Nibbler and POS
  2. Copy the Manual Upgrade package to the till and extract it to a temporary location (EG: C:\upgrade)
  3. Open a command prompt (If running Windows Vista, this should be opened with Administrative privileges)
  4. Switch to the Enabler Folder
    C:\> cd\enabler
  5. Run the following command:
    C:\Enabler> C:\upgrade\upgrade C:\upgrade\
  6. Allow the manual upgrade to complete
  7. Open Nibbler on the till and ensure there are no errors when starting

Step 4: Perform a Full Master File Load from the Store Server to the Till

  1. Ensure Nibbler is running on the Till
  2. Open Back Office on the Store Server
  3. Click File
  4. Click Full Master File Load
  5. Enter the Till Number in the ‘Send To Till(s)’ field
  6. Click the ‘All’ button to move all database files across to be loaded
  7. Click OK and allow the full load to complete

Step 5: Restore posparam.dbf to update Transaction/Seed numbers

  1. On the Store Server, locate the Enabler\Lanmnt\isl-bu\ folder
  2. Take a copy of the <rrbbtt>.prm file and place the copy in the Enabler\Local\ folder on the new/rebuilt till
  3. On the Till, ensure all Enabler apps are closed
  4. Rename the Enabler\Local\posparam.dbf to posparam.old
  5. Rename the copied <rrbbtt>.prm to posparam.dbf
  6. Start Nibbler on the Till and ensure all starts OK

Step 6: Ensure that all systems are working

  1. Once the Full Master File Load has completed, open POS
  2. Click File
  3. Click Peripherals Test Utility
  4. Click each of the buttons for the hardware that is attached to the till and ensure all return positive responses. Close when complete
  5. Open a Sales Screen and ensure normal operations (Select/Scan product codes and barcodes, ensure correct pricing, ensure correct tender listing etc).
  6. Ensure sales information is being uploaded to the Store Server by running a sales report on the store server and confirming sales from the rebuilt till are visible.
