Under some circumstances, it might become necessary to recover POS HostLog data processed via the EEE HostLogExportStaging tables if the original data was missing TranIDs. This could arise if a store server was mis-configured to not generate TranIds for a period of time and the ERP receiving data from HostLogExportStaging is dependent upon TranIds (this includes EEE .HOS file exporter if configured to use TranID validation).

Should the need arise to recover POS HostLog data processed via the EEE HostLogExportStaging tables a stored procedure exists in EEE to assist.

The parameters are as follows:

@branch TBranchCode
@datefrom datetime
@dateto datetime
@bRegenTranIdsOnly bit
@CopyBackToHostLogExportStaging bit

You can execute the following to preview changes:
exec usp_RecoverHostLog '723', '20131024', '20131024', 1, 0

and to actually recover the data:
exec usp_RecoverHostLog '723', '20131024', '20131024', 1, 1

or better:
select * from HostLogExportStaging
begin tran
exec usp_RecoverHostLog '723', '20131024', '20131024', 1, 1
select * from HostLogExportStaging
rollback OR commit as appropriate

This proc should take care of recovering TranIds for SH and related records only - as well as miscellaneous / stand alone record types TS, VR, DS, BS, TV. It deliberately excludes EV, VI, HB as no likely ERP interface implementation would require these record types. There are other unhandled, miscellaneous record types - hence the preview mode which will reveal if there are other records with unrecovered TranIDs - case by case assessment would be necessary to determine if further steps are required to recover extra record types not handled by this procedure.

Multi-row transactions such as goods receipts and transfers are unhandled - the TranIDs for these are created by EEE not POS so should not need recovery in the same way. However should the need arise, Magenta could extend this procedure to handle these using the same concepts as SH sale transactions.

UPDATE: As of EEE version 1.76 SR-9 support for GH, XH, TH records and their children has been added.

EEE can print transactions dockets such as inter-store transfer slips, goods receipts etc to Enabler POS receipt printers so long as the POS receipt printer uses a Windows print queue (not OPOS). The Windows print queue must be shared on the POS till and EEE must have access to print to that shared print queue. In practice this means the EEE services service account must have access to the print queue. This can be achieved on a domain, or by creating a local Windows account with the same credentials as the EEE services account. It may also be possible by using the Windows credential cache on the EEE server or granting guest or everyone access to the print queue. The most appropriate means of granting access will depend upon a number of factors including the Domain/Workgroup environment, Windows versions and individual preferences re security levels of print queues.

Integrated Logins
When Enabler creates an integrated login to EEE to perform an inventory transaction such as inter-store transfers, Enabler passes in the share name of its receipt printer (Enabler uses the Windows print queue configuration to retrieve the share name and passes this to EEE). Enabler also passes to EEE command strings for enlarged print, receipt cut and so forth. EEE then simply writes its receipt text including formatting strings to the print queue share name passed in by Enabler.

Non-Integrated Logins
For non-integrated logins it is more complicated. If at head office, EEE will send its output to the receipt printer configured for the till code specified for head office printing in the general tab of configuration settings. The Enabler configuration setting for the print queue will need to be specified in \\computer\print-share-name format.

For all other branches, if EEE can find a single till that has a receipt printer with the print queue configured in \\computer\print-share-name format it will send the print job to that queue. Otherwise EEE will display a popup prompt to the user to select a printer - the popup will list all receipt printers from the branch printer queue table as well as all tills found with an enabled receipt printer where the receipt printer queue name is specified in \\computer\print-share-name format.

Should the need arise to recover POS HostLog data processed via the EEE HostLogExportStaging tables a stored procedure exists in EEE to assist.

Enabler and EEPOS require a licence key to operate. Licence keys expire from time to time, usually after 12 months. When POS detects that it is within one month of its licence expiration date, POS can automatically relicense itself via the Magenta licensing server.

Configuration
Some simple configuration is required. You must enter:
# Magenta's relicensing server address: http://licensing.magentaretail.com.au/magentawebservice/magentawebservice.asmx
# Your user code issued by Magenta
# Your licensing password issued by Magenta
# Text that will display to your store operators should auto-relicensing be unsuccessful

Network Requirements
Relicensing requires that each POS terminal has port 80 access to the Magenta licensing server. To check if your POS machines have appropriate network access, open a browser on the POS machine and try to navigate to http://licensing.magentaretail.com.au/magentawebservice/magentawebservice.asmx. If this succeeds then the basic network requirements are met. If this fails the cause of the failure will need to be identified and resolved before POS will be able to automatically renew its licence.

Other Requirements
In order for Enabler to invoke the licensing web service, the POS machine must have the Microsoft .NET framework 3.5 installed. Older versions of Enabler POS may fail silently if this requirement is not met, later versions will log this in the Enabler event log.

Trouble Shooting
If POS is failing to renew its licence and the network test above is successful, check the POS event log at the time the POS relicensing message was displayed for a record indicating the reason for the relicensing failure.
Note that various ports relating to EEE can be customised, so ensure the correct port number is taken into consideration when opening/closing firewall ports. This includes but is not limited to Query Server, EEE Web Management Interface, SQL Server and others. <br />
TCP Port for EEE Web Management Interface (Outbound to EEE Web Server) if EEE is in use <br />

Further Details: <br />
Enabler requires the standard Windows File and Printer Sharing ports open. These allow tills to communicate with the store server. <br />
As is often recommended, TCP port 445 should be the only port opened. Other ports such as TCP/UDP 135-139 have been known to be exploited by Malware in the past, so should remain blocked where possible. <br />

If EEE Online Inventory is in use, specifically Online Transfers, port 445 is used to print Transfer Dockets <br />

If EEE Query Server is in use, the TCP port number can be customised. This must be taken into consideration when opening the required ports. <br />

If EEE is in use, the website port can be customised. This must be taken into consideration when opening the required ports. <br />

EEE <br />
Query Server <br />
Used to provide answers to data queries made by stores <br />
Required: <br />
TCP Port for Query Server (Inbound from all tills/store servers). The first EEE company usually uses port 9000, and subsequent companies use 9001, 9002, etc. <br />

EEE Web Pages <br />
Required: <br />
TCP Port for EEE Web Management Interface (Inbound from all tills/store servers and any other devices that require access to the EEE Management Interface). This is usually HTTP/Port 80. <br />

Optional: <br />
TCP Port for Secure EEE Web Management Interface (Inbound as above) if a SSL Certificate for secure https web communications is installed and configured on the Web Server. This is usually HTTPS/Port 443. <br />

EEE Import/Export directories <br />
Required: <br />
TCP Port 445 (Inbound from all Store Servers) if Enabler Internal Comms is used to transfer Import/Export data to and from a store server. <br />

To support legacy ERP implementations that already process Enabler HOS data from a file system directory structure, typically without extended HOS record headers as produced by Enabler when integrated with EEE, a modification has been implemented in Data Loader to support passing the raw HOS files through to a separate file system location for consumption by such ERP.
As a rarely used feature, configuration must be performed directly in the registry in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ISL Australia Pty Ltd\Data Loader\Settingsn
Or, for x64 systems in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\ISL Australia Pty Ltd\Data Loader\Settingsn

The following string values should be created:

ErpCopyToErp Set to 1 to enable pass-through, else set to 0
ErpFlatDirectoryStructure	Set to 1 to use the flattened directory structure described below.
ErpIncludeResendFiles Set to 1 to enabler pass-through of resend files, else set to 0. Typically this would be 0.
ErpStripExtendedHeaders Set to 1 to strip extended headers (and replace with standard headers).
ErpRootPath Set to the root path to write files for ERP. UNC path name is supported.

Note that after editing Data Loader settings in the registry, the Data Loader service must be restarted to apply the changes.
If the ErpFlatDirectoryStrucuture option is off (0) files will be written in a subdirectory for each branch (and till if individual tills created HOS files) beneath the ErpRootPath. Subdirectory names will be the lowest-level directory name from the original .IMP file location – typically this is the store’s four digit logical address. If tills are generating the HOS files then the two lowest-level directory names are used. So the ERP directory structure would become:

\\ERP-Server\Import-Folder\0201\
\\ERP-Server\Import-Folder\0202\
\\ERP-Server\Import-Folder\0203\
… and so on…
or
\\ERP-Server\Import-Folder\0201\01
\\ERP-Server\Import-Folder\0202\01
\\ERP-Server\Import-Folder\0202\02
\\ERP-Server\Import-Folder\0203\

etc if tills are creating the HOS files.

If ErpFlatDirectoryStrucuture option is on (1) files will all be written in the ErpRootPath folder. Each file name will be prefixed with the store’s four digit logical address from the lowest-level directory name or, if HOS files are generated by tills, the filename is prefixed with the branch code and till number from the lower two directories. So the file structure would become:
\\ERP-Server\Import-Folder\0202_09211300.hos
\\ERP-Server\Import-Folder\0202_09211305.hos
\\ERP-Server\Import-Folder\0202_09211310.hos
… and so on…
or
\\ERP-Server\Import-Folder\0202_01_09211300.hos
\\ERP-Server\Import-Folder\0202_01_09211305.hos
\\ERP-Server\Import-Folder\0202_01_09211310.hos
\\ERP-Server\Import-Folder\0202_02_09211300.hos
\\ERP-Server\Import-Folder\0202_02_09211305.hos
\\ERP-Server\Import-Folder\0202_02_09211310.hos
etc if tills are creating the HOS files.

Data Loader will create the ERP root folder if possible and the store (and till) sub-folders if necessary. The Data Loader service account, commonly “EEEServices”, will need read/write/delete (or “full control”) permissions on the folder/directory targeted by the ErpRootPath setting. If this is a network path then the network share will also need to permit read/write by the Data Loader service account.
Only uncompressed files will be copied to the ERP path – Data Loader will decompress ZIP files and copy the uncompressed contents to the ERP. Files copied to the ERP will retain their original file names from inside the ZIP archive (usually Month-Day-Hour-Minute [mmddhhnn]) with a .HOS extension.

If Data Loader is unable to copy a file to the ERP path (e.g. if the ErpRootPath share is temporarily unavailable) EEE will store files for the ERP in the EEE <import> path (original location of the HOS/ZIP files processed by Data Loader). Such files with have a .ToERP_Ready file extension. When Data Loader next processes a file from the same store, any accumulated .ToERP_Ready files will be copied to the ErpRootPath if it is writable.

Enabler uses a technology from Borland known as the Borland Database Engine, or BDE, to access its database files. Enabler allows certain parameters that control the operation of the BDE to be configured. These settings are written by Enabler to the Registry, where the BDE looks for its configuration.

These settings in Enabler are found in Configuration / Database Setup on the tab titled “BDE Settings”:

Enabling the use of advanced settings and using the Recommned Settings (click Recommended Settings) can yield quite substantial performance improvements compared with the BDE default settings that would otherwise be used. The settings specified in this screen take affect only when:

# The new settings have been successfully written to the Registry
# All BDE client applications (including Enabler POS, Back Office and Nibbler) have been closed and restarted. Sometimes it is easier to restart the machine to be sure.

Writing Settings to the Registry
The Registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Borland\Database Engine\Settings\SYSTEM\INIT might be secured such that POS logins cannot write to it. This can be determined by clicking the Test Registry Access button from the BDE settings screen on each terminal. Remember, however, that although you might have Registry Access when configuring these settings on your Enabler head office server, store machines might not have appropriate registry access. In order to allow the settings to be written to the Registry, you might have to log in as an administrator account one time only and load Enabler. Enabler would update the registry as it loads, and because the Registry data is in HKLM, not HKCU, this setting will continue to apply once you resume your normal Windows login.

Testing Impact of These Settings
As these settings change the memory footprint of the BDE, you might have to experiment with alternative BDE shared memory address settings. Once these changes have been made, verify that Enabler still runs without displaying error messages relating to BDE memory. It is important to verify that POS and Nibbler can both run, no matter which order they are loaded (POS first vs Nibbler first). For servers, try loading Back Office as well.

Note that if you have multiple machine types, configurations or Windows versions, you should test and verify these new settings on each platform.

Enabler uses indexes to assist in rapidly retrieving data from the database. These indexes work just like an index in a book – the search value is located in the index, and the index tells Enabler where in the database to look for the full data record. Indexes are essential to allow data to be retrieved rapidly, however they require work to maintain. Every time new information is added to the database, the index must be updated to tell Enabler how to retrieve that data.

Tables in Enabler may be indexed on many different fields or combinations of fields. For example, the product table is indexed by product code, barcode, description, supplier product code and many more fields. Thus for each product that is added to Enabler, all these indices must also be maintained.

The product table is perhaps the most important table in Enabler, in so far as products are central to most POS operations. As a result, the product table, and to a degree the style table, tend to have a large number of indexes. It is also common, for the product table in particular, to have quite a large number of rows in these tables – product tables with > 600,000 rows are not uncommon.

Because of the large number of rows and the large number of indexes, it follows that if some of these indexes can be disabled, substantial performance gains can be enjoyed when importing new/additional products into the Enabler product database.

A tab exists in the Product Database Options called “Index Options”.

On this tab, you can turn off various indexes on the posprod & posstyle tables. The more products you have, the slower it becomes due to the number of indexes that need to be updated, even if you are not using a lot of them. Turning off indexes that you do not use will have a significant impact on the time taken importing new products.

The functional impact of turning off the indexes differs depending on the index in question. A summary is below. Note that in all cases where it says cannot search from PLU prompt, this also applies to other areas of Enabler as well where we search for a PLU, not just the sales screen (i.e product field on stock adjustments or product labels screens). This is because the underlying product lookup logic has been changed to ignore those indexes that have been turned off.

Product Table (local\posprod.dbf):
Turn off supplier stock code 1 index

-When supplier product code 1 is added as a custom field to the product browse, you will no longer be able to sort the browse results via supplier product code 1.

-Cannot search from the PLU prompt in the sales screen using “.” notation to search for a supplier stock code.

-Centralised Purchase Orders. Cannot validate/resolve a PLU entered using “.” Notation to search for a supplier stock code.

Turn off supplier stock code 2 index

-Cannot search from the PLU prompt in the sales screen using “.” notation to search for a supplier stock code.

-Centralised Purchase Orders. Cannot validate/resolve a PLU entered using “.” Notation to search for a supplier stock code.

Turn off supplier stock code 3 index

-Cannot search from the PLU prompt in the sales screen using “.” notation to search for a supplier stock code.

-Centralised Purchase Orders. Cannot validate/resolve a PLU entered using “.” Notation to search for a supplier stock code.

Turn off supplier code 1 index

-Cannot search via supplier code 1 only in the advanced search screen on the product browse.

Turn off division index

-Cannot search via division code only in the advanced search screen on the product browse.

Turn off class index

-Cannot search via class code only in the advanced search screen on the product browse.

Turn off barcode index

-Cannot search from the PLU prompt in the sales screen using the product barcode contained in the product table. Searching via barcodes contained in local\posbarc is still supported. Note: When using barcodes sent form EEE, they are stored in the local\posbarc table, not the local\posprod.pd_barc field.

-When importing SOH (SC records, ISL-INV.DAT), cannot search for product via posprod.pd_barc when barcode included but no PLU included in the import record. The number of attempts that were skipped is logged to the event log, i.e “Product Quantities (no PD_BARC index) = 113”.

-When generating new products from the style maintenance, and the option to generate a barcode is turned on, we do not generate a new barcode

Style table (local\posstyle.dbf):
Turn off supplier stock code 1 index

-Cannot search from the PLU prompt in the sales screen using “.” notation to search for a supplier stock code of the style.

-No longer an index that can be selected on the style browse.

Turn off supplier stock code 2 index

-Cannot search from the PLU prompt in the sales screen using “.” notation to search for a supplier stock code of the style.

Turn off supplier stock code 3 index

-Cannot search from the PLU prompt in the sales screen using “.” notation to search for a supplier stock code of the style.

Turn off barcode index

-Cannot search from the PLU prompt in the sales screen using the style barcode contained in the style table.

For example, when “division” index is turned off in the example above, performing an advanced search will not allow you to search on division without entering a class, supplier or department to narrow down the search via index first:

The local\posprod.dbf and local\posstyle.dbf files are always conditionally reindexed during the data purge as part of the end of day. This will force indexes turned on/off to be regenerated/removed. You can off course reindex the files manually, do a conditionalindexall or a migrate to update the indexes to what you have selected.

Microsoft SQL Server has a number of settings that can impact on the operation of some types of queries. One of these is the setting of QUOTED_IDENTIFIER (on/off). SQL Server requires that QUOTED_IDENTIFIER be ON in certain circumstances. One circumstance which can affect EEE is when inserting or updating rows in a table that has an index on a computed column. TenderDetail is such a table in EEE. Further, if a stored procedure inserts or updates such rows then QUOTED_IDENTIFIER must be on when the stored procedure is compiled!.

Symtoms:
If this requirement is not met, SQL Server may return an error message such as “READTEXT failed because the following SET options have incorrect settings: 'QUOTED_IDENTIFIER'. Veryify the SET options are correct for use with indexed views and/or indexes on computed columns and/or query notifications and/or xml data type mthods.”

Cause:
In EEE this can occur if EEE stored procedures are recompiled while QUOTED_IDENTIFIER is off. Depending on how stored procedures are compiled, QUOTED_IDENTIFIER may be on or off. Stored Procedures installed using Magenta's standard EEE tools should be properly compiled. If stored procedures are applied manually, they may have been compiled with incorrect settings. There are various possible reasons:

* SQLCMD, by default, has QUOTED_IDENTIFIER set to OFF
* SQL Server Management Studio usually defaults QUOTED_IDENTIFER on, but this can be overridden in SSMS options
* OLEDB connections normally default QUOTED_IDENTIFIER to ON

As SQLCMD is used by the EEE installers, upgrade tool and service release tool, any special (non-standard) scripts that fail to include SET QUOTED_IDENTIER ON at the start could also lead to this problem.

To Check Connection Settings for any Current Connection:

The following TSQL may be executed on any connection to display the current values for a variety of SET options.

EEE Reports are delivered using Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services, a component of SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server 2008. Reporting Services displays reports to users in a web browser. In order to print reporting services reports to a client-connected printer, Reporting Services uses a small ActiveX component known as RSClientPrint. Upon first attempt to use the client print function (or first attempt after installing a Reporting Services update such as an SQL Server service pack), IE will prompt the user to download and install the ActiveX control.

The ActiveX control may be manually pre-deployed to client machines. This is desirable:

# To save users having to accept the ActiveX installation prompts; or
# If Internet Explorer security settings are such that the installation of the ActiveX control would not be permitted.

To Manually Install the ActiveX Control:
The ActiveX control files are in RSClientPrint.cab on the SQL Server in the Reporting Services bin directory. This is typically located in c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.4\Reporting Services\ReportServer\bin. Note that the MSSQL.4 directory is variable depending what SQL Server components are installed – Reporting Services may be in MSSQL.2 or MSSQL.3 etc.

The cab file contains the following which should be installed in c:\windows\Downloaded Program Files:

* gdiplus.dll
The EEE table (view) StockMovementTbl (StockMovement) holds line item detail records for all stock movements. StockMovementTbl.Type is an integer column which identifies the type of each transaction.
Table StockMovementTbl Cost and Gross Profit Columns
The stock movement table contains a row for every movement of stock, including a row assocaited with every sale or return line item. Except in complex cases such as multi-packs and kits, there is a 1 : 1 relationship between rows in SaleLine and StockMoveTbl. However, not all stock movement rows have associated SaleLine rows – consider stock receipts, transfers etc.

Note columns prefixed with FC are in the currency local to the branch (for EEE instances supporting branches in different countries). The Non-FC version of the column has the amount in the local currency of EEE as converted using user-defined exchange rates.

The population of cost and gross profit columns in table StockMovementTbl for stock movements associated with sales is:

SQL Server stored procedure UpdateStock looks up the configuration for the branch to determine that branch's stock valuation configuration option – i.e. WAC or list cost. Based on this configuration, the current cost for the Branch/SKU is retrieved. If this is null of $0.00, uses BuyPrice1 for the branch/SKU.

Finally, any oncost amount passed back from POS is added to this cost, however for sales POS will always return oncost of $0.00.
Enabler uses a technology from Borland known as the Borland Database Engine, or BDE, to access its database files. The BDE is a common, shared program component which may be utilitised by other applications.

There are many versions of the BDE. Depending on when your Enabler was originally installed, your BDE version should be either 5.01, 5.11 or 5.2.

It is possible for a third party application installed on the same computer to install a different version of the BDE. To determine your current BDE version:

# Determine where the BDE program files are installed:
## The BDE is commonly installed in <tt>C:\Program Files\Common Files\Borland Shared\bde</tt>
## To be sure, load the Registry Editor regedit.exe.
## Navigate to the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Borland\Database Engine
## The value of DLLPath is the directory where the BDE is installed.
# In Windows Explorer, navigate to this directory and locate the file IDAPI32.DLL.
# Right-click this file and choose Properties.
# Switch to the tab that displays file version information. Depending on your version of Windows this might be called Details or Version Info or similar.
# The first 3 parts of the 4-part version number show the BDE version. E.g. 5.0.1.x or 5.1.1.x or 5.2.0.x.

If your BDE version is different from the above, please contact Magenta Support to discuss your options.
Enabler uses a technology from Borland known as the Borland Database Engine, or BDE, to access its database files. The BDE is a common, shared program component which may be utilitised by other applications.

It is possible for the BDE to enter a temporary, unstable state. This may occur if one Enabler application terminates (or is terminated) abnormally, preventing it from properly disconnecting from the BDE. We have also observed upon rare occasions that third party applications that use the BDE may prevent Enabler from accessing the BDE. This has been observed in relation to a service known as “Insight Manager” which is part of a server monitoring toolset from HP.

Symptoms:
# Enabler applications already running may freeze and become totally unresponsive. Typically the application is consuming no CPU resource when viewed in Task Manager.
# Enabler applications may fail to load. Upon attempting to start an Enabler application, nothing appears to happen. In Task Manager the EXE can be seen in the process list. The application user interface is never displayed.
# In these cases, the BDE Administration Utility (BDEADMIN.EXE) is generally also unable to be loaded.

To Resolve This Issue:
# Forcibly close any Enabler applications from Task Manager process list:
## Press Shift+Ctrl+ESC to invoke Task Manager, or use Ctrl+ALT+DELETE and choose Start Task Manager.
## Locate NIBBLE.EXE, WINPOS.EXE and INFOCTRL.EXE. Hint: Click image name at the top of the list to sort alphabetically.
## For each the above processes found, click the image name in the process list then click End Process (and confirm when prompted).
## Double-check to ensure all the above processes have been removed from the process list.
## If any other processes are known to use the BDE, close those programs or forcibly terminate through Task Manager (forcibly terminate third party applications at your own risk!).
## Try starting Enabler applications as normal.
# If the problem is not resolved or if you have reason to suspect that some other application may be using the BDE:
## Obtain Process Explorer (PROCEXP.EXE) from Sys Internals (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb545027.aspx).
## Run procexp.exe
## From the Find menu, choose “Find File Handle or DLL”
## At the “Handle or dll substring” prompt enter IDAPI32.DLL and click Search.
## If any process is using the BDE, it will be listed in the search results. The search may take a minute or two to complete.
## If any processes are shown, identify the application that owns the process and try to stop the application. Note – the BDE can also be used by Windows services. Note – the process that directly accesses the BDE might be a child process of the offending application. Check if the listed process(es) has a parent process.
## If necessary, you might have to forcibly terminate such processes. Do this at your own risk!
## Retry the Enabler applications.
## When third party applications are found to conflict with Enabler, you may need to contact Magenta to discuss your options.
